2017 got off to a somewhat rocky start. But it's all good now.
Denver is great. I just wouldn't want to live IN the city. We caught a concert at Red Rocks ampitheater to see Carseat Headrest and Local Natives warming up for Portugal the Man the second day of our trip. Could have almost caught a contact buzz in that place.
Garden of the Gods is essentially a "rock garden" consisting of all sorts of red sandstone and other types of rock formations, just west of Colorado Springs. Breathtaking!
We didn't spend much time in Golden because we'd been there in 2010 (as in Denver). But we got these great shots with an old friend of ours.
Taos was a bit disapointing to Bruce after all the hype he heard about it. It's a dumpy, small town with little to offer unless you want to ski. Santa Fe, on the other hand, is a culture-rich town surrounded by beautiful hillsides and filled with historic buildings and sites, not to mention artists. A LOT of artists live in that area. It's a bit pricey for a retirement location, but it would be cool to live near it.
Our plan was originally to have this visit with Eileen's Florida family earlier in the year, but it got pre-empted by the somewhat expected passing of her stepfather, Alex Kaczetow. We made the best of the situation and even got to spend some quality time with Aunt Ruthie, who's in her 90's in these photos.
Bruce's mother passed away in early February, but did not want a funeral. Instead, her wish was that her ashes be spread in the Gulf of Mexico off the Florida coast. This trip happened on Mother's Day (Linda's idea...a great one). Our cousin Bobby Blakeman arranged the boat trip with his neighbor, who just happened to have about the right size boat.
In August 2017, Eileen took a business trip to the Pacific Northwest. As has become somewhat a form of vacation, Bruce joined her and they spent a few days in Seattle.
